Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Rushaga Sector is a gorilla trekking in the southern area of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi is the habitat to Mountain gorillas in Uganda. Rushaga is one of the four gorilla tracking regions of Bwindi forest. Bwindi national park is of the four world heritage sites in Uganda and is divided into 4 trekking regions. The regions include Nkuringo Sector also found in the south of the park. Others are Buhoma Sector in the north and Ruhija Sector in the eastern side of vast Bwindi forest. Rushaga is the region with the biggest number of habituated Gorilla families totaling to five in number.

Rushaga Gorilla Families

Rushaga region is one of the best gorilla trekking regions in Bwindi forest because of its many gorilla families. Each gorilla group means 8 gorilla permits are allocated to it per day. This means the more the gorilla families in Rushaga, the higher the number of gorilla permit. It is not common to fail to get a permit in Rushaga region when other sectors of Bwindi have none. Due to the area’s many families, chance of securing a permit are always higher. It is also in Rushaga sector where one of the groups reserved for gorilla habituation experience are found. Bikyingi gorilla family in Rushaga is available for gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi. The other group of gorillas in Uganda for the same experience is Bushaho gorilla family in Nkuringo region of Bwindi forest. Nkuringo and Rushaga are all found in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. A gorilla permit for habituation experience in Uganda costs USD 1500 only and you qualify to see and stay with the mountain gorillas for four full hours in the wild. Only 4 persons are allowed per group for every trek. All gorilla permits in Uganda are sold by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
