Uganda Gorilla Permit Increased to USD 700

A Uganda Gorilla Permit Increased to USD 700 starting 1st July 2020 from the current USD 600. The  anouncemnet was made last week by the Director Tourism and Business Services at the Uganda Wildlife Authority Stephen Masaba while meeting Uganda Tour Operators at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

Starting 1st July 2020, all Foreign non-residents in Uganda will pay USD 700 for a gorilla permit for either Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Whereas foreign residents with Ugandan working permits will pay USD 600 for a permit per trek. East African citizens in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and South Sudan will have to pay Shillings 250,000 to visit any of the two gorilla parks for trekking the endangered primate species,” Masaba told an attentive gathering.

The anounced gorilla permit price increment has been made well in advance, a move that will allow tour operator communicate it to their respectively travel agents. There is still a year ahead to the new price. USD 100 is a fairer increase compared to Rwanda’s 100% price hike in 2017. Rwanda increased it gorilla permit for Volcanoes National Park from USD 750 then to USD 1500, a hefty price surge that saw the number of tourists reducing in that park.

Gorilla visitors can still book for a USD 600 gorilla permit July next year and enjoy the benefits of a freindly price. Compared to Rwanda, Uganda still remains with some of the cheapest gorilla safari prices in the region. One can at present book a Uganda Wildlife Authority Gorilla Permit and do either a 1 day, 2 or 3 days gorilla trekking safari in Uganda from Kigali. It is shorter to drive from Rwanda to Uganda for gorilla trekking and back. Its a matter of flying into Rwanda and do gorilla trekking in Uganda.

Uganda is not short of options for gorilla trekking. One can fly from Entebbe to Bwindi, track gorillas and back to the airport. Or else, takeing a road transfer from Entebbe or Kampala to either Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park is an alternative many tourists to Uganda have enjoyed.
