Golden monkeys are bouncy, lively and intrusive and regularly take their time jumping from one bamboo branches or skipping on the forest ground towards the base of the volcanoes Park. These species among primates family have outgrown their original introversion or shyness into accepting daily visit by tourists and researchers at the park.

At the Volcanoes National Park, there are 2 habituated Golden Monkey groups, one group encompasses has about 80 to 100 members with its habitat being at Mt Sabyinyo base.

In most cases, Golden monkey tracking is done in the same way you track mountain gorillas. Trekking the wonderful Monkeys as well takes place in the morning hours and trekkers are permitted to keep around the monkeys for one hour. Departure to see Golden Monkeys usually starts from the Kinigi Park Head office at 07:00 a.m. The charge for a Golden Monkey tracking permit  is USD 100 per each, even though the number of tourists is not limited. Trekking Permits can be booked in advance or arranged while at the park offices on the actual day of tracking. Porters to carry various items are available for hire at the entry points of the park.
