Golden Monkey Trekking at the Volcanoes National Park. Besides Mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park is a habitat for Golden Monkeys (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) in Rwanda. Golden Monkey trek in Rwanda is the forest’s other tourism highlight. Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti is a local subspecies of the common Sykes Monkey, also named as the “Blue Monkey” and commonly lives in the high altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park. At Volcanoes forest, Golden Monkeys are in two habituated groups, one group consists of about 80 – 100 members, with its home at Mt Sabyinyo foot. Visitors leave for the Golden Monkey trekking from the Park’s Head offices at Kinigi at 07:00 am. The good thing is that the visitor numbers are not limited and Golden Monkey trekking permit is at USD 100 per person per trek. The monkey permits can be booked through a tour operator in the morning of the trekking circuit.
