Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – The Rhino and Wildlife Ranch in Uganda

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary also known as Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is found in Nakasongola district and is a home to wild rhinos in Uganda. The sanctuary is conveniently located 176 km (100 miles) north of Kampala off Kampala – Gulu highway. Found on the route Murchison Falls National Park, you branch off at Nakitoma Trading centre and drive a few kilometres on your left side towards the north. This tourist attraction is under the Rhino re-introduction project by the Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Ziwa is the only placeĀ  in Uganda where to see rhinos in the wild. A day trip to Ziwa will give you a chance to trek rhinos in the wild. Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) has got rhinos but confined in fences for visitors to see. At present, the sanctuary is home to 32 southern white rhinos. This rhino home has increasingly become popular with visitors who tour it for Rhino Trekking, Shoebill Trek and Canoe Ride, Bird Watching, Night Walk, Nature Walk plus relaxation among others.
