Busingye Gorilla Group

Busingye Gorilla Group in Rushaga Sector of Bwindi

Busingye gorilla group is a gorilla trekking family in the southern Rushaga region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The family that opened up in 2011 is a breakaway faction from Kahungye group. It was highly likely that Kahungye family would get divided as it was a bigger unit of gorillas with silverback together. In such scenarios, power struggles are expected and the males cannot co-exist in peace as each of them looks for dominance.

To reach this group, you may drive from Kisoro town or through Kabale. The trip to see gorillas in this group may begin from Entebbe or Kigali to Bwindi in Uganda. The option of flying from Entebbe to Kisoro town and then connect to the park is also possible and commonly done.

Busingye family has 9 individuals consisting of 3 infants, 5 black backs plus 1 dominant Silverback. Kindly understand that gorilla numbers in various groups that we mention always keep changing during the demise, new born as well as deserting the families by some members. So the figures we give keep changing. When Busingye was launched, some park conservationists assumed that its members would go back to their former Kahungye gorilla family but it has not been the case

To see gorillas of this family, you only need to book a gorilla permit and be rest assured of the gorilla encounter. On the day of visiting gorillas, ensure that you are at the park offices for briefing by 8:00am. The briefing is followed by dispersing into the jungle to search for gorillas, an exercise that may last between 30 minutes to over 6 hours depending on the whereabouts of the gentle giants in the jungle.
