Bwindi Gorilla Trekking is the most amazing safari activity in the world of mountain gorillas in the region. Gorillas in Uganda live in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a park that has almost half of Mountain gorilla population in the world. There are only 4 park in the world where mountain gorillas live. These include Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in DR Congo. Bwindi forest, divided into 4 gorilla trekking sectors where visitors go to see gorillas in the wild. Every sector of Bwindi is further subdivided into gorilla families available for trekking by 8 visitors per day.

To trek gorillas in Bwindi, you must have a gorilla permit issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). These UWA permits are sold at USD 700 each and USD 1500 for the Gorilla Habituation Experience. Bwindi gorilla trekking is done in Buhoma Sector, Rushaga Sector, Nkuringo Southern Sector and Ruhija Gorilla region. Buhoma is found in the north of Bwindi, Nkuringo and Rushaga in the south of the park and Ruhija in the east of the impenetrable forest.

Gorilla Permit Booking

Ensure that you make a gorilla trekking permit booking in time to save yourself from disappointments due to late attempted bookings. Contact your safari organiser in time to ensure that your permit is secured. A Uganda gorilla permit costs USD 700 which you need to put as deposit for your safari. The Uganda Wildlife Authority Gorilla Permits are sold on the first come, first serve basis and they tend to be very competitive for high season months of July, August, September, December, January and February. At least book a permit 6 months in advance or a year and above.

Getting to Bwindi for Gorilla Safaris

Bwindi forest is reacheable from Kampala, Entebbe or Kigali. You can drive from Kigali to Bwindi, transfer by vehicle from Kampala to the park or fly to Kihihi or Kisoro Airtsrips are trek gorillas.
