9 Days Chimps, Big Cats & Gorilla Tours

The Itinerary Details 

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe 

Enter Uganda through Entebbe International Airport where you will be picked by our driver guide to transfer to Kampala for overnight and dinner at either Hotel Africana, Serena, Sheraton or Mosa Courts.

Day 2: Kampala – Kibale Forest 

Leave Kampala in the morning for Kibale National Park. Have a lunch stop in Fort portal town and proceed to Ndali Lodge/ Rwenzori View Guest House/Kanyankyu Ecological Site for overnight and dinner.

Day 3: Chimp Tracking Kibale Forest 

In the morning after freshening and having breakfast, go for chimp tracking and where you will learn more about the behavior of these. Retire for lunch and in the afternoon, you take pleasure in a guided walk to look out for other primates, butterflies and birds. A set of connections of sheltered forest trails presents much to amuse botanists and butterfly lovers, while birders are in for an extravagance. Dinner and over night at Ndali lodge/Primate Lodge/ Kanyankyu Ecological Site.

Day 4: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park

In the morning you will head off from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will enjoy a game drive as you enter the park arriving in the afternoon.  After lunch, you will have a late afternoon game drive. Queen Elizabeth boasts of the highest bio diversity ratings of any game park or reserve in the world ranging from the expansive Savannah to Rain Forest, dense Papyrus Swamps and dark Crater lakes to the immensity of Lake Edward. Over 100 mammal species like Lions, Hippos, Buffaloes, Leopard, Spotted Hyena, Elephants and the indefinable Giant Forest Hog plus extraordinary 606 bird species that include the Black-Chested Eagle, the Swallow Tailed Bee Eater to mention. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Lodge/ Jacana safari Lodge (High end and luxury accommodation), King fisher Lodge Kichwamba/Hill Top Camp (Medium class accommodation) or the Institute of Ecology Cottages (Low budget/basic accommodation).

Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge

At dawn, report to the ranger station at 08.00 am for briefing before you go to track the habituated apes in Kyambura gorge and then go back to the lodge in time for your breakfast. Rest a bit during the lunch break and use the afternoon for a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel where you see hippos wheeze a few metres away from the boat, Buffalos hang around in the shallows and a variety of birds beautify the grasses on the water shores. Immense White and Pink-Backed Pelicans, Great and Long-Tailed Cormorants, Open-Billed Stork, African Jacana, Malachite and Pied Kingfishers are regularly noticed. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Jacana Safari Lodge/ Institute of Ecology.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. 

Leave the lodge after breakfast and drive through Kigezi Hills characterized by terraced slopes and snaking roads to Bwindi. Bwindi National park is most excellently recognized for its Mountain Gorillas. The Montane Forest also attracts fabulous birds including the African Green Broadbill, Bar Tailed Trogon and other amazing forest species. In the afternoon, you may take a nature walk to the Munyaga Waterfall and where you will have a chance to spot primates like the Grey Cheeked Mangabey Blue Monkeys and others species. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp / Mantana Tented Camp/ Buhoma Homestead/ the Community Bandas / Lake Kitandara’s Tented Camp.

Day 7: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Very early in the morning before around 8.00 am, report to the ranger station for registration and briefing about the tracking exercise. The guides lead you all the way through the bush to track the gorilla. Gorilla tracking time relies upon the movements of these splendid primates. The moment with gorillas is an awesome, exciting and an etched in your mind adventure. In the afternoon, you may rest at the camp of have village walks to the local Batwa Community. Overnight and dinner at Gorilla Forest Camp / Mantana Tented Camp/ Lake Kitandara’s Tented Camp/ Buhoma Homestead/ the Community Bandas.

Day 8: Bwindi – Lake Mburo National Park 

After breakfast, head to Lake Mburo National and arrive in the afternoon. Take your lunch at the lodge go for an afternoon boat trip and later on an evening game drive. Lake Mburo is an addition of the Tanzanian Plains with big flocks of Zebra, Impala, Eland and other savannah species. For bring, it is among the best destination to discover African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike and many more.  Overnight at Mihingo Lodge/Mantana Tented Camp/UWA’s Tents.

Day 9: Lake Mburo – Kampala 

Take breakfast and proceed to Kampala with an opportunity for game as you leave the park. You are at liberty to stop at the Uganda Equator and the Royal Drum makers at Mpambire. Arrive in Kampala in the after or evening and retire to your booked hotel/lodge. We shall pick you the next day for Entebbe Airport transfer for your flight back home.
