Rwanda Discovery Tours – Chimps Trekking & Canopy Walk

Activities during the Rwanda Discovery Tours include Chimps Trekking, Colubus Monkey Trekking plus Canopy  and Nature Walk. Full Rwanda Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali, transfer to the Hotel.

Upon your arrival, you will be driven to Classic Hotel (deluxe) or Kigali Serena Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

In the morning at 8:00am, your driver guide during the tour will pick you from the hotel and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, visit the Nyanza palace, Murambi Memorial and Butare Museum time allowing. You will have lunch enroute and arrive at Nyungwe in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Nyungwe Top View lodge.

Day 3: Chimpanzee and Colobus Monkey Tracking.

Take breakfast in the morning and transfer to the park offices for a briefing. The rangers will highlight to you the rules of chimps tracking in the forest. Enjoy the chimps as they feed and among themselves. This is also a good moment for photographic taking for memorial purposes. Return to the lodge after chimps, have lunch and then go for the tracking of colobus monkeys during which you may encounter several other primates. These include the vervet  monkeys and L’Hoest’s monkey (Cercopithecus lhoesti) among others. Enjoy Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Nyungwe Top View lodge.

Day 4: Do Canopy and Nature Walks

Take breakfast and go for a canopy walk within the forest with hopes of seeing and enjoying the stunning sights and sounds of different species of birdS. These include the Rwenzori Turacos and the Black and white casqued Hornbill among others plus marvelous forest views. You will also have a self-guided walk after lunch around the adjacent environs and the Kamiranzovu waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Nyungwe Top View lodge.

Day 5: Drive to Lake Kivu, do a Boat Cruise or Relax by the lake

Following a delicious breakfast, transfer to Lake Kivu. Upon there, you will enjoy spectacular decor of  the Virunga Mountains and the emerald vegetation along the way. You will enjoy lunch enroute and you will do either a soothing boat cruise on Lake Kivu or a peaceful relaxation on the lake shores. Have dinner and overnight at Palm Resort Gardens, Paradise Malahide or Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 6: Drive to Volcanoes National Park, track Golden Monkeys

Take an early breakfast and fast drive to Volcanoes National park to reach in time for the golden monkey tracking activity. These monkeys are the most endangered primate species at the Volcanoes National Park (French – Parc National des Volcans). After tracking, return to the lodge and in the evening, you are at liberty to do a traditional walk to Iby’wachu for cultural entertainment by the Banyarwanda community. Iby’wachu Cultural Village in Nyabigome village is in Kinigi sector. Iby’wachu is a cultural site where the ex-poachers showcase their traditional works like the king’s palace setting, iron works, grinding stones, dances and also offer local beverages to tourists. Return for dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel, La Palme Hotel or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in the Parc National Des Volcans

You will have an early breakfast and head to the park headquarters to be briefed before entering the forest to track the mountain gorillas. The hiking may take about 3-8 hours depending on the movement of the gentle giants. Time allowed to visitors to be with the Gorillas is one hour. This time is for photographing, seeing and enjoying the Gorillas as they feed or play around. Take dinner and overnight stay at Muhabura Hotel, La Palme Hotel or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 8: Dian Fossey Hike

Take breakfast and go for the climb up to Karisoke Research Centre, established by Dian Fossey, a well-known gorilla conservationist who was murdered in December 1985 and was buried at Karisoke Centre. You will learn more about the works and activities of Dian Fossey in safeguarding the gorillas in Rwanda. On return, you will relax at the lodge. Enjoy your dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel, La Palme Hotel or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 9: Transfer to Kigali, city tour and departure.

Take your breakfast and drive back to Kigali reaching early for a for a Kigali City tour. You may visit Nyamata Church, a local craft market at Nyabugogo and the Genocide Memorial Centre among others. You will have lunch in Kigali and transfer to the airport for a flight to another destination.
