6 Days Rwanda Primates & Gorillas

Rwanda Gorillas and Primates tour involves Gorilla and Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park and Chimpanzee Trekking Tour in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

In the morning, you will drive southwards to Nyungwe National Park with stop-off in Butare to visit the national museum, the genocide memorial, the traditional king’s palace in Nyanza arriving in Nyungwe late in the evening. Enjoy overnight and dinner at GisakuraHotel (Budget), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Deluxe) or Nyungwe Forest Camp (Luxury).

Day 2: Primate Tracking in Nyungwe Forest

Early in the day, you will transfer to the forest to begin your primate tracking expedition. You will remarkably appreciate the sighting of Chimpanzees, black Colobus Monkeys, white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys and baboons. There are over 13 primate species and a diversity of bird species in this enormous Nyungwe forest national park. Retire to the hotel for dinner and overnight at the lodge you used yesterday.

Day 3: Drive to Volcanoes National Park, the Mountain Gorilla Habitat.

In the morning after breakfast, start a long smooth drive to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri where you will arrive in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel or Kinigi Guest House (Budget), La Palme Hotel (Deluxe) and Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury) awaiting the next day’s gorilla undertaking.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Expedition

Have an early morning breakfast, transfer to the park offices for briefing park rangers and then begin your noteworthy gorilla tracking that routinely lasts between 3 to 7 hours in the thick jungles of the Volcanoes National Park. Staying close to the gorillas upon meeting them is one full hour. You will then after return to the lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge you slept in the previous night.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking

In the morning after a breakfast, you will transfer to the park offices again this time to do Golden Monkeys. Similar to the Mountain Gorilla trekking, treks to see the Golden Monkeys are in the morning hours and visitors are also allowed to stay for 1 hour with the monkeys.  After this trek, return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 6: Hike to the Dian Fossey Grave and return to Kigali City.

In the morning after a pleasant breakfast, you will the leave the lodge to start a hike to the Dian Fossey grave, a renowned American gorilla researcher who committed her life studying about mountain gorillas and how to conserve them. Fossey undertook a wide-ranging learning of mountain gorillas for over a period of 18 years. After this Dian Fossey Hike, you will transfer back Kigali taking 2-3 hours’ drive after a delicious lunch in Ruhengeri. The driver will either drop you off at the airport or at your booked hotel in the city.
