5 Days Gorilla Tracking Uganda and Lake Bunyonyi Tours

This Uganda Gorilla Tracking safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable forest and Lake Bunyonyi. Bwindi is a home to gorillas in Uganda whereas Lake Bunyonyi is one of the most beautiful water bodies in the country, considered Gifted by Nature. During the safari holiday, you will enjoy gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest plus birding, nature tours, community walks and canoeing on Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, you will leave Kampala and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi which is found in Kabale region commonly referred to as the Switzerland of Africa. En route you will have a stopover at the Equator for photographs and also stand a chance to see the area which separates both the Southern and Northern Hemispheres.

Have another stopover in Mbarara town for lunch after which you will continue to Lake Bunyonyi which is the deepest lake in Uganda and situated close to the borders of Uganda and Rwanda. On a bright day you might see the magnificent volcano of Mount Muhavura. Dinner and overnight stay at Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Kyahugye Island on full board.

Day 2: Canoe Ride, Nature Walk, Community Tours and Relaxation around Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, you will set out for the canoe cruise and travel around the surroundings from the water surface as you search for different bird species on some of the 37 Islands of the Lake. You will visit Kyahugye island for nature walk and be able to see the various animal species. Later return to the Lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will have a community and nature tour around the lake. With the lake’s beautiful island and calm waters, you may choose to relax as you feel the breeze from Africa’s second deepest water body. Overnight and dinner at Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Kyahugye Island on full board.

Day 3: Morning Walk and then transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In the morning, you may choose to have a walk around the lake as you feel its coolness. After that, return to the lodge, have breakfast and then start the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Uganda, know for its Mountain gorillas. Overnight at Gorilla Safari Lodge, Bakiga Lodge or Gorilla Mist Camp on full board.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

Early morning after breakfast, you will go for the Gorilla briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You will be given a guideline booklet which you will go through and know how you have to behave while in the forest with or near the Gorillas. Bwindi Rain forest is so spectacular and it offers a dramatic steeply forested landscape which is incredibly dense, crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists to see the Gorillas.

Besides Mountain Gorillas, other mammals in the forest include the rare golden monkey, buffaloes, elephants, black-fronted duiker, bush buck, leopard, giant forest hog and a lot of bird species. You are reminded to take with you your packed Lunch and water because the time taken to see the Gorillas varies according to the movements of the Gorillas. The experience got from seeing the Gorillas is so exciting and unforgettable. After seeing gorillas, pass by the park offices and pick up your gorilla trekking certificate, a document that confirms your participation in the adventure. Afterwards, return back to your lodge for refreshments and so on. Overnight at Gorilla Safari Lodge, Bakiga Lodge or Gorilla Mist Camp on full board.

Day 5: Return to Kampala

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala with a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch. Arrive in the evening, marking the end of the gorilla tracking safari and Lake Bunyonyi tour.
